Governors Profiles

St. Laurence Catholic Primary school has a very active Local Governing Body.

Rachel Chalklin (co-opted governor)

I have been employed as a teacher at St Laurence since 2012, however my association with our school goes back much further. I attended St Laurence as a pupil and my four children were all educated at St Laurence. During their time at school, I chaired the school PTFA and joined the governing body as a parent governor. In September 2021 I took on the role of Assistant Head. When I am not working, I enjoy craft activities, maintaining my classic car and spending time with family and friends often camping by the sea.

Felix Hearn (parent governor)

I became a governor in 2019. I am married to Nancy, and we have two children, in KS1 and KS2 at St Laurence school. Nancy and I are both Christian missionaries with the interdenominational mission Youth With A Mission (YWAM), and we are part of Arbury Community Church. We have lived in Cambridge for 6 years now as a family, and I am originally from Cambridge.

Dr Ursula Lowe (foundation governor)

I become a Governor in 2019. I have been a member of St. Laurence’s parish since moving to Cambridge in 1988.  I have responsibilities for Safeguarding and Early Years Foundation Stage. I value and enjoy my visits to the school to meet the children and staff. I am usually at the 6pm Mass on Saturday and also on the reader rota.  I am a Lecturer at Cambridge Regional College. I am steadfast in lending my support to the continuance of catholic education at this school.

Dr Sue Price (foundation governor)

I am Sue Price, long standing member of St Laurence's Parish, Cambridge and very honoured to be a foundation Governor for St Laurence's School.  I work for the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology as the Director of Pastoral Outreach.  I am very interested in Children's Spirituality and how that can be supported and enabled to flourish.  I am the Governor with special responsibility for RE.

Harry Roberts (co-opted governor)

I was invited to be a governor by Father David Paul in July 2010 and served as a foundation governor. I have been a member of the parish for 20 years and attend the 9.30 Mass where I help with the children’s liturgy. My children attended St Laurence between 2002 & 2014 before going on to St Bede’s. My wife, Christine, was a member of the PTA whilst our children were here. I work in the plant breeding industry developing new varieties of winter wheat.

Claire Southgate (vice chair, foundation governor)

I have been a member of St Laurence parish since we moved to Cambridge in 2009, and became a Governor in 2015. Both of our daughters attended St Laurence and have now moved on to St Bede’s, and we can often be found at the Ablaze Mass. I currently work in communications at the Royal Society of Chemistry and aim to use my professional skills and experience to benefit the school community.

Dr Victoria Mary Rataj-Worsnop (co-chair)

I have lived in Cambridge for most of my life and was educated here.  I am Vice Chair of governors at St Laurence school. I am a former secondary headteacher and currently an education consultant.  I have worked in all phases of education up to university level.  I am committed to holistic education, and I have particular interests in teaching and learning and curriculum development. Additionally, I have a keen interest in sport, particularly netball. I am immensely proud to serve St Laurence school and its community.

Dr Charlotte Woodford (chair of governors)

I have been a foundation governor at St Laurence School since 2009 and have been chair since 2021. My association with the Parish goes back to 2000, and my children attended St Laurence School before moving on to St Bede’s. I work as a lecturer and tutor at Selwyn College and in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics, University of Cambridge.
